This should be a must read book for everybody, whether or not you understand or experience the depths of chronic pain. It is a book of deeply personal poems by the author and I read it at one sitting (well devoured, and with time for crying breaks). It expresses perfectly many of the feelings and experiences I have seen in my own pain filed path, hence the tears. It was almost relief that someone could say so much about pain & it's effects in language that everyone could feel.The poems are haunting, the photography wonderful and so lovingly matched to the mood of the book. Don't misunderstand me, this is not a depressing read by any means, at times it's almost a celebration. Please please consider reading this. You won't regret it.

LOVE Helle, AND Her Poetry AND her Fantastic Photos! Like ALL the other reviewers, Helle Soe Gade or Helle Gade is an AMAZING Poet and Photographer. She knows and understands what is happening in her world, which inspires most of us (I hope) to do the SAME. Helle is a GIFTED ARTIST who is in sync with our times. I knew this author was one to look out for, I was right. Her first poetry book(Silent Dreams) touched my heart and soul, I could feel her words. Nocturnal Embers is even better. The cover pulls you in first, then her poems of pain, seasons, innocence of children and dreams rock you to your core.The dreams that pull at your head and heart written for all to feel. The photography was a great surprise, when you look at the photos after reading the poems you can see her words in them. The author took those photos! Not many words on the page, but powerful enough to feel her message. I have total respect for this author showing and sharing her inner pain. Some of my favorite poems are, ( Writing) this poem reminds me of all my author friends and how they make us readers feel. Memories, just beautiful. Child's soul, a reminder of our childhood and us now. Helle sticks to her roots of Nordic mythology throughout the book. Please hit that button, if you don't you will never feel her words. Thank you Helle for sharing your beautiful words with us. I would totally recommend the author to anyone who likes to feel what they read in a poem.
"Nocturnal Embers" is a beautiful collection of poetry and photographs by Danish writer, Helle Gade. I was very impressed by the poet’s first book, "Silent Dreams", but I think this is even better. The poems touched me in so many ways; some made me want to weep, others made me smile. Each one touched a part of me.
“Excruciating Pain, “Release Me”, “Sadness”, “Fog” and “Fatigue” moved me almost to tears. The first of these is a heart-rending description of a person suffering with an invisible, painful illness. Knowing several people who have to live with pain constantly or who live behind a façade of normality, this poem stood out for me.
I love the poem “Child’s Soul”. It is quite beautiful, mentioning the positive attributes of love and compassion. I felt that it could be matched with “Karma”; despite the fact that, in many ways, it is the opposite of “Child’s Soul”.
“Karma” is a chilling poem, talking of Karma as
”……the hoar frost
The harbinger of death
To all who are without love and compassion.”
I enjoyed the love that flowed through “Pap” and the hopefulness of “New Circle” and “The Sting”. Some of my favourite lines come from the poem, “Fireworks”
“Let go of the expectations of other people’s opinions of you
Let go of the control
And spin till you are dizzy”
I have already read this collection of Helle Gade’s wonderful poetry twice and I can say with certainty, that I shall read it again. I would recommend “Nocturnal Embers” to anyone who enjoys beautiful, heart-felt poetry.
I enjoyed this poetry book. The author is from Denmark and uses her words wisely. If you like poetry and photography, I highly recommend this lovely kindle book.
Helle Gade once again, digs deeply into the human condition, baring her soul and heart in this glorious work. Nocturnal Embers is a must for any poetry lover.
Few books are perfect. There is usually something I can think of that needs tweaked. Nocturnal Embers, on the other hand, delivers on all levels. The cover captures you and the words don't let go. Her poems stretch across her pain and Nordic myth, all the while grounded someplace between magic and reality. Author Helle Gade has created an emotional and spiritual journey, with photographs enhancing the experience. My breath was stolen on almost every page and I have never read anything as original or groundbreaking. I can't recommend a collection more highly.
Helle Gade's poetry is passionate and vivid, communicating deep and raw emotion. This collection is so well written and so deeply felt you know there is true emotion, true pain, true love and heartbreak in her words. I've followed her online for a while (she showcases her artwork on her wordpress site), and have come to have a deep appreciation for her poetry, as well as her photography and art. 'Nocturnal Embers' is highly recommended.
